Ministerial Advisory Council on Disability - Independent adviser to the WA Minister for Disability Services - Keeping government informed

1st Term: 01/07/2017 – 30/06/2019

James views disability services with a holistic approach. He said that in order for a person who is living with a disability to live a successful life, everyone in the community must be on-board, from shopkeepers, taxi drivers, bystanders, employers and the government. His aim is to be a voice for those who cannot advocate for themselves, to enhance life outcomes for all those encompassed in the ripple effect of disability. The rights of the sector’s employees, particularly Disability Support Workers are something about which, he is extremely passionate.

From his lived experience of life with a disability and being dependent on the use of a wheelchair, James has intimate knowledge of what it is like to depend on support workers and carers. He said that those individuals work tirelessly to support his full inclusion into the community.

James has been, for many years, actively advocating for the sector in any way available to him including contributing to the NDIS Every Australian Counts campaign and through his employment with a service provider organisation.
