Dr Rachel Skoss

Ms Barbara Oosterhuis

1st Term 01/01/16 – 31/12/17

Ms Barbara Oosterhuis has extensive experience working in the disability sector and in human services in the State Government, Local Government and the not-for-profit sector.

For many years Ms Oosterhuis managed local government projects and programs for Access and Inclusion in the community. She worked for a shorter time with the Disability Services Commission and more recently was a project officer with the National Disability Services in WA.

Ms Oosterhuis has lived, worked and raised a family in both metropolitan Perth and in the Pilbara and Kimberley regions of the State and therefore, fully comprehends the difficulties of accessing appropriate support in remote and rural areas of the State.

Her lived experience of disability since birth has enabled her to be a thoughtful and caring communicator whilst maintaining a positive and solution focussed outlook to the many issues facing the sector and people with disabilities.

She is passionate about community inclusion and works to ensure that all people will have a quality life filled with opportunities, friendship and choices. She is a wife, a mother and grandmother and brings to the Council a varied perspective on living and working as a person with a disability.
