New Deputy Chair

The Council’s Deputy Chairperson position became vacant at the end of September 2009 due to the departure of Ms Jane Eacott.

A secret ballot by the Council members was conducted in October 2009 and Ms Melinda Manners was elected as Deputy Chairperson.

Ms Manners lives in Kalgoorlie and is currently on maternity leave from her Senior High School Education Support Centre Principal’s position with the Department of Education and Training. She holds a Bachelor of Education (Honours) – Children with Special Needs and a Bachelor of Arts.

Ms Manners has held positions on the City of Kalgoorlie / Boulder Access and Inclusion Plan Sub-Committee, the Curriculum Council Access and Inclusion Plan Committee, the Federation of Police and Citizens Youth Clubs management committee, the International Federation of Keystone Youth Organisation’s executive committee, and has strong network connections with a variety of disability agencies in both Perth and the Goldfields region. She is currently writing curriculum and support materials for students with intellectual disabilities and is an Official Visitor at mental health units with the Council of Official Visitors.

Ms Manners provides both service provision and rural and regional (Goldfields) perspectives. She has extensive knowledge of special needs education, children and youth, access and sport and recreation.
